Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charitable Foundation and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at providing emergency health care to Yemeni refugees in Somalia.
The agreement was signed by Saeed Al Hajri, Board Member and Chief Executive Officer of Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation, and Khalid Khalifa, Regional Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the GCC.
The agreement includes a $250,000 grant from the Foundation to provide health care to more than 2,000 Yemeni refugees in Somalia, focusing on people suffering from chronic diseases and those in need of psychological support.
In a statement on the occasion of the signing of the agreement, Al Hajri noted the importance of this cooperation with the UNHCR. “This agreement stems from our full faith as Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation,” to cooperate with the Office of the UNHCR with a view to providing a better life for refugees to preserve their dignity “.
For his part, the Regional Representative of the UNHCR stressed the importance of this support, expressing his gratitude for this donation provided by the Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Foundation for Yemeni refugees in Somalia, because of the urgent need. “We are confident that this project will make a difference in the lives of these refugees and will provide them with a healthier life,” he added.
Some estimates suggest there are more than 5,000 Yemeni refugees who have fled to Somalia since the outbreak of the conflict in Yemen, most of them arrived by boats.
Most of the Yemeni refugees are concentrated in the Puntland and Somaliland regions, while some have taken refuge in Mogadishu.
