DOHA: Ten disabled female breadwinners benefited from an income-generating project implemented by Qatar Charity (QC) in Mauritania.
It included distribution of sewing machines and holding of preparatory courses in sewing and embroidery.
The project seeks to provide a fixed income to beneficiaries through their use of sewing machines given to them after training. Disabilities of beneficiaries varied; some were handicapped, and others suffered from partial paralysis.
The sewing machines were delivered to the women during an honouring ceremony organised by QC, in cooperation with Mauritanian Association for Assisting the Handicapped, a partner responsible for the project’s implementation.
Officials of the Handicapped Persons Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Arafat Municipality in Nouakchott and QC office were present.
QC has also implemented income-generating projects in cities and villages in Brakna, Mauritania. The projects includes eight conventional bakeries which are benefiting some 7,000 people.
