DOHA: After a delay due to bad weather in the Arabian Sea, Fath Al Kheir 2 will start sailing from Oman to India tomorrow.
The traditional dhow is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai after 10-15 days.
Ahmad Al Hitmi, Director, Beach Department, Katara, praised efforts of the crew towards the historic voyage and their endurance and courage in the face of bad weather which required then to comply with the shipmaster’s orders to ensure safety on board was maintained.
Mohammad Al Sada, Public Relations and Communication Officer, said the dhow is well-equipped with requirements to counter any accidents or climate conditions.
“The crew comprised people willing to follow the steps of their ancestors in dealing with hardships with endurance, patience, and bravery.
“For instance, the captain and his crew were united which reflects the importance of co-operation, solidarity, and teamwork within a specific framework by which everyone performs assigned duties in the best possible manner.
“All sailors are enthusiastic and brave. They are ready to resume this exceptional experience which is a continuation of the first Fath Al Kheir voyage. However, it is different in some aspects related to the duration of the journey and the long distance to India.”
On difficulties that faced the dhow while heading from Katara Beach to Sur port in Oman, he said: “Since our departure from Katara Beach, the weather was fine and we encountered no dangers except slight mishaps due to head winds we countered.
“This had led us to arrive in Sur safe and earlier than schedule In Sur, we ordered more supplies to resume our journey to India,” he added.
