GCC coast guard expo showcases maritime safety

Doha: GCC Coast Guard Week exhibition in Doha will boost citizens and residents' knowledge on safety, security and seafaring norms, officials said.
People are free to visit the exhibition at Islamic Museum Park to learn more about modern security methods and safety norms for seafarers, swimmers and watercraft users, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has said.
Visitors will have opportunity to undertake short sea trips in General Administration of Coasts and Borders Security boats.
The third GCC Coast Guard Week opened here yesterday under the theme 'Co-operate with us for your safety'' under the aegis of MoI.
Public Security Director General Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi opened the event attended by directors and senior officials from the MoI and delegates representing GCC Coast Guard.
The General Directorate of Coasts and Boarders Security, Lekhwiya, departments from the Ministry of Interior, and private companies from naval security hardware are joint organisers of the event.
Coast Guard Week is observed to raise awareness of seafarers and acquaint them with maritime safety and security norms.
Police Chief Major General Al Khulaifi visited the pavilions exhibiting awareness messages and information allied to Coast Guard Week.
The event will boost information exchanges and engagement between concerned departments in the GCC, he said.
Coasts Guard Security Department, Civil Defence, Traffic, Lakhwiya, Al Fazaa, Medical Services Department, Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs, Qatar Police Sports Federation, Penal and Correctional Institutions Department, Community Policing Department, Police Training Institute, Police Canine Section and private agencies are participating in the exhibition.
