Qatar’s second local dates festival concluded after 18 days with unprecedented sales amounting to 175 tonnes and 430 kg of dates.
More than 60 Qatari farms took part in the festival, which was organised in the framework of Qatar’s great attention to supporting and encouraging local production, and as part of the state’s efforts to achieve food security and its keenness on developing the agriculture sector, including palm trees, and the promotion of date varieties towards greater excellence and competition locally and internationally.
The festival also aimed at encouraging farmers to pay attention to the quality of dates and to educate them about modern agriculture methods and the care of palm trees.
The festival will be an annual event to share technical expertise among farmers, market the local date products and present the local production of dates and its types.
