I extend my deepest condolences and most profound sympathy to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the dear country, and to all the people of Qatar, on the passing of the Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, may God grant him vast mercy.

Today, we have lost a great man, the architect of the modern renaissance and the foremost engineer of contemporary Qatar. He was a wise and visionary leader who devoted his life to serving the homeland and its people.

Ambassador of Qatar to the UK H E Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani

Not all misfortunes are alike, nor are all tragedies bearable. There are men whose absence makes nations feel that a pillar of their foundation has been lost, and that a luminous chapter of their history has drawn its curtain, after pages of glory and giving were inscribed within it, pages that will remain immortal in the memory of generations.

How do we mourn a leader beloved by his people, a leader whose wisdom all trusted, a father who embraced his homeland with his heart before his effort? How do we bid farewell to a man whose presence was reassurance, whose word was trust, and whose decision was wisdom and insight? He was one of those men whose impact transcended the bounds of their lifetimes, for they did not live for themselves, but for their nations; they made serving their people a mission, the elevation of their country a goal, and loyalty to it an unwavering covenant.

May God have mercy on the Father Amir, who devoted his life to serving Qatar, making its rise his constant preoccupation and its honour his perpetual concern.
