DOHA: Motorists filling fuel at Woqod stations may soon be able to pay through personal accounts to be opened at the company, a senior official said yesterday.
The service will be made available to citizens and expatriates very soon, Al Sharq reports, quoting Woqod CEO Engineer Ibrahim Jeham Al Kuwari as saying.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the opening of a new Woqod fuel station at Lakteefia in West Bay yesterday.
Woqod Chairman Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani inaugurated the facility, which is Woqod’s 26th fuel station.
Every time a customer fills fuel from a Woqod station, the amount will be deducted from his account at the company.
The customer will immediately get an SMS showing the quantity of fuel filled, price and balance in his account, explained Al Kuwari.
He said the current crowding at Woqod stations is because of the closure of several private petrol stations and the rapid growth in the population.
He said Woqod has signed up with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and other entities for allocation of plots for portable petrol stations.
“We are awaiting final approval from government entities concerned. We plan to implement the project very soon,” said Al Kuwari.
Woqod plans to open eight fuel stations this year and more than 100 before 2022.
A new service station will open in Al Wakrah by this month and other facilities will be across the country, he added.
The new Lakteefia service station is spread over an area of 5,125 square metres and provides petrol and diesel.
It also has a Sidra convenience store, car wash and a multipurpose automobile service bay for basic vehicle maintenance.
Fourteen fuel stations are under construction and expected to be opened this year and the next in addition to seven expansion projects which are almost complete and would become operational by this year-end.
Woqod also plans to establish Fahes vehicle inspection facilities at existing petrol stations subject to availability of space, Al Kuwari added. The Peninsula
