DOHA: More than two million people are expected to benefit from Qatar Charity’s (QC) Ramadan projects that will cost QR58.2m.
Launched yesterday, this year’s Ramadan campaign entitled “Ramadan Al Basma” has witnessed a leap in the cost, variety, and number of beneficiaries.
The cost of the projects to be implemented inside and outside Qatar is QR14.6m more than last year. The number of people expected to benefit from the projects is more than 2,043,000.
The budget for Ramadan projects within Qatar has reached QR20m, almost QR4m more than last year’s QR16m. The cost of projects outside of Qatar, on the other hand, has increased by QR11m to reach QR38m compared to last year’s QR27m. The expected number of beneficiaries of these projects is 1,448,426 which means 100,000 persons more than last year.
The Ramadan campaign this year focuses on Syrian refugees and displaced. There are also a number of Iftar projects for other countries. Qatar Charity CEO Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari has urged philanthropists in Qatar to donate for the developmental and aid projects of QC to provide relief for the Syrian people, patronising orphans and needy families, and supporting educational, health, income-generating, and water projects. He noted that QC aims at collecting QR300m this season to support poor communities and marginalised groups. Last year’s donations totalled QR278m.
Many new cultural, educational and entertainment programmes will be introduced in Qatar such as “Salloom”, “Ramadan Village” and “Katara”.
One of the programmes is “Iftar Banquets” targeting 156,000 people in Al Khor, Al Thakheira, Smeisma, Al Khairiteyat, Al Gharafa, Al Rayan, Al Shahaniya, Al Wakra, Bin Mahmoud, Freij Abdul Azeez, Al Najma, Al Mansoura, Bin Omran, Al Matar, Al Sailiya, Al Jmeileya, and Um Salal Muhammed.
The cultural and public programmes include Al Baraha Activity programme — a public programme for fostering values and concepts required of families during Ramadan, Salloom programme — an exhibition of traditional crafts from the old times and ‘Ramadan Village’ — a space for games and shopping. Programmes in cooperation with Katara comprise a reciting program for children entitled “Irtaqi” (rise), lectures after “Al Tarawih” prayer, “Mazameer” (Psalms) and “Optimism” exhibition.
There will also be radio programs, Quran memorization competition, women Da’wah program and TV shows including One Heart (part II) and Safari Al Khair II.
The cost of Ramadan projects of QC outside Qatar amounts to QR38.2m expected to benefit around 1.45m people.
The Iftar events will benefit around 900,000 people in Palestine, Lebanon, Albania, Morocco, Bangladesh, Syria, Bosnia, Kosovo, Mali, Jordan, Tunisia, Mauritania, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, India, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Iran, Comoros, Pakistan, Indonesia, Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Niger, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine.
Ramadan food parcels, which will cost around QR6m, will be distributed to needy people in the targeted countries. In addition, the Fiter Zakat will be distributed to 185,000 people in 40 countries with an estimated cost of QR3m.
Clothes and gifts with a total cost of QR5.7m will be distributed 54,000 needy people in targeted countries. QC will also distribute food amounting to QR7.3m to some 230,000 displaced Syrian refugees.
Donations can be done through SMS to 92133 to donate QR25, 92632 to donate QR50, 92642 to donate QR100, 92428 to donate QR500, and 92429 to donate QR1,000. Donations can also be made through all Ooredoo self-service machines, and QC’s interactive kiosks at Villaggio, the Gate, Immigration building, Traffic building and The Pearl.
QC has also allocated hotline for donors: 44667711 and 33793929 in addition to its collecting agents located in markets and malls, and its donation department at the headquarters, its subsidiary offices in Doha and at the in-kind donations’ collection outlets ‘Taif’.
