Plan to prepare Qataris for knowledge-based economy

DOHA: The government has come out with a futuristic plan to prepare Qataris for skilled professions as part of efforts to develop a knowledge-based economy.
As per the 2016-2016 plan, in the next ten years, the government will provide scholarships to 21,386 students and employees in government bodies both at universities within the state and abroad in various disciplines, Minister of Administrative Development H E Dr Issa Saad Al Jaffali Al Nuaimi said yesterday.
The disciplines include medicine, engineering, computer science, financial management, economy, tourism, media and public relations, communications, aviation and other disciplines.
He noted that medical and engineering sectors have enjoyed the highest percentage required for the scholarship plan for 2015/2016. It provides the secondment of 3,485 students and employees in various disciplines. He said Qatar is working on developing the administrative system through upgrading the efficiency and competence of employees in all government organizations.
Addressing a press conference yesterday to announce the scholarship programme for government bodies, the Minister said this stems from the fact that the administrative body, represented by the national human resources, is the main pillar and the deciding factor in the realization of comprehensive and sustainable development in all fields.
Dr Al Nuaimi said, the state provided great attention to the development of work system, simplifying and mechanization of procedures and the improvement of efficiency which aim to develop and promote administrative capacities and to build young leaderships which realize the proper concept of development.
He said, in this context, the government drew up its strategic objectives to link education output to needs of governmental agencies and labour market through an integrated plan designed to gradually enable Qatari cadres to occupy specialist positions with government agencies. The Peninsula
