More than a year since the government forged a peace pact with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a ceremony marking the start of the decommissioning of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) arms and combatants will be held in Maguindanao tomorrow, with President Aquino attending the ceremony.
“On Tuesday June 16, a historic chapter of the peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front will be held. The MILF is expected to turn over its weapons to the Independent Decommissioning Body,” Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said over state-owned DZRB.
“President Aquino will witness the first phase of the decommissioning process which is considered one of the firm displays of support and commitment of the MILF to the peace process that will bring peace and development in the territories of Bangsamoro,” he added.
The first phase of the process includes the turnover of 55 high-powered and 20 crew-serve weapons and the decommissioning of 145 MILF combatants. The decommissioned combatants will undergo a registration and validation process and will each be given government assistance such as cash aid amounting to P25,000 and PhilHealth card enrolment.
