New Delhi--The investigation into former Delhi law minister Jitender Tomar’s alleged fake law degree slowed down with all colleges and universities across the city being closed on Sunday. Meanwhile, police have planned to trace a woman friend of Tomar’s, who they suspect helped him acquire the fake degrees from the various colleges he claimed to have studied at.

Police also claimed that they found papers to show that Tomar had pursued a graduation course from Delhi University’s Shivaji College in 1983. Police teams will be visiting the college to ascertain the facts.

“We could not complete our investigation as Sunday was a holiday. Also, the court extended Tomar’s remand for only two days. This did not give us sufficient time to visit Bundelkhand college. We are limiting our investigation to Delhi on Sunday and Monday,” a senior police officer said.

“So far, we have found that a woman friend of Tomar’s — who heads a private educational institute in Outer Delhi — aided him in acquiring his forged educational degrees. Police teams will be visiting this institute on Monday. The woman might lead us to the fake degree nexus. Also, the institute she heads offers courses under the Tilak Manjhi Bhagalpur University. But we still have to investigate if fake degrees are being handed out,” the officer said.

Police are also investigating if VNS Institute of Legal Studies in Bihar, where Tomar claimed to have pursued his legal studies from, is involved in the racket. Police suspect an insider job in the fake degrees issued from the college and have asked it to join the investigation soon.
