Doha:  The draw for the 1st West End Park Challenge Cup and Ramadan Tournament, scheduled to be held at West End Park stadium, was held on Friday.
The Challenge Cup will begin tomorrow and will include 16 teams from the Qatar Cricket Association’s (QCA) B and C Divisions.
The tournament will be a Twenty20 tournament with teams divided into four pools of four teams each. The finalists of the Challenge Cup will qualify for the Ramadan Tournament, which will start from July 6 and include 12 teams — 10 from the QCA A Division and the two Challenge Cup finalists.
The winners of the twenty-twenty tournament will win QR50,000 and the runners-up will get QR25,000 in prize money.
The teams can include four overseas players to bolster their squads.
The organisers hope that some international names can be attracted to play cricket in Qatar.
West End Park Chairman Mana Al Mana, Director of Euphoria Sports Michael Scallon, and Tournament Director Mohammed Gul Khan conducted the draw ceremony.
“I am delighted to inaugurate the first tournament draws for the West End Park Challenge Cup and Ramadan Tournament,” Al Mana said.
“It is clear there is a large appetite for cricket with places for both tournaments filling up in a matter of days. It is a privilege to host both tournaments and I’m sure the teams will be delighted at the prospect of playing at the professional facilities at West End Park Stadium. I would like to wish each team the best of luck and look forward to following the action closely throughout the summer,” he added.
The West End Park Challenge Cup will begin at 7:00pm tomorrow. Entry is free for the public.
