The State of Qatar, represented by Qatar Fund for Development, has signed an agreement with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to provide a multi-year generous financial contribution of $40m to support the office, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Amina Mohammed.
The agreement was signed for Qatar Fund for Development by its Director-General Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, and for the OCHA by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien, on the sidelines of the 17th Doha Forum.
The State of Qatar ranked second in the list of the ten countries that support humanitarian affairs, according to the UN statistic for 2016. Qatar Fund for Development underlined that signing the agreement demonstrates Qatar's confidence in the role carried out by OCHA at all levels. Al Kuwari said that by supporting OCHA, Qatar is supporting the UN, noting that it is not the first agreement signed between Qatar and OCHA.
