DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed food packets to a group of expatriate workers who were badly hit by a massive fire that gutted their accommodation in Al Sailiya last Friday.
About 450 workers received the aid, which included rice, sugar, tea and edible oil, among other items. The majority of those affected by the fire are Sri Lankans and Nepalese.
No casualties were reported in the fire, which broke out on Friday noon when most of the workers were not in their rooms. They lost all their belongings in the blaze. The workers have been shifted to other shelters by their employers.
The QC said that blankets and clothes will be distributed to the workers in the second phase of the campaign. The aid was collected and distributed by its local development department in collaboration with Friends Cultural Center.
Several community organisations have also launched donation campaigns to support the fire victims.
