Ashghal Announces Completion of Expansion Works on Al Asiri Interchange

Doha, 15 April 2015:

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the completion of the expansion works on the roads leading to Al AsiriInterchange, which the Roads Maintenance Departmentstarted implementing end of 2014

The project included the construction of a third additional east-bound carriagewayfromSalwa Road up toAl Asiri Interchange making the road threelanes instead of two lanes.

An additional lane was also added to improve the traffic flow from east ofSalwa Road going right toward the D-Rind Road (Khalifa Al Attiyah Interchange).Similarly, more lanes were added to the south boundroad stretching from AlAsiri Interchange to the ground levellevel of the D-Ring Road parallel toAl Asiri Tunnel making the road three lanes instead of two.

The expansion works also included the construction of an additional lane on the ground level of Al AmirStreet parallelto Al Asiri Tunnel and stretchingsouth towardAl AsiriInterchange;hence increasing the number of lanes to four instead of three. As part of the expansion, an additional carriageway was also constructedto serve the traffic flow goingwest from Al AsiriInterchange toward Salwa Road and all the way to Al Mana Petrol Station.

The expansion works also included the completion of the three east bound carriageways from the direction of Al Asiri Interchange alongSalwa Road and past the entrance toAl Qafila Street from Salwa Road.

The expansion works were also completedon the east bound Al Asiri Interchange toward Jabr Bin Ahmad (Ramada) Intersection. Athird carriageway was also added to the two existing carriageways.

The completed expansion works enhanced the traffic flow atAl Asiri Interchange and its vicinityand received positive feedback from road userswho noticed an improvement in that region’s traffic flow. The public expressed satisfactionon social networks and thePublic Works Authority has received a number of posts in which motorists expressed their satisfaction with the improvement that the area has witnessed following the completion of the expansion works.

The project also comprised increasing the number of lanes on the carriageway heading west from Salwa Road in the direction of Al Asiri Interchangeto three instead of two lanes.

The 4th expansion phase comprised the construction ofan additional laneto improve the traffic flow from Salwa Road toward AlAsiriInterchange and going right towardAl AmirStreet, making the north bound carriagewayheading from Al Asiri Interchange towards the ground level of Al Amir Street, parallel to Al Asiri Interchange, three lanes instead of two.All works of the four-phase project were completed end of March 2015.

The Roads MaintenanceDepartment at Ashghal carries out all the roads’ maintenance works including the restoration, renovation, and maintenance of many roads in different areasin the state of Qatar. These operations comprise the works on thelocal and external roadsand aim at ensuring the security and safety of road users, motorists and pedestrians alike.

These works also include: the maintenance of traffic diversions,the clearing of construction sites, works ofseweragenetwork,the laying of services pipes, excavation works and the paving of the lower road layers, flexible surfaces, sidewalks, signs, and traffic signage.

The Roads Maintenance Department’s scope of work also coversthe management of maintenance and renovation works of many service facilities across the country; namely, theelectricityand water pipes, phone lines, street lights, and traffic signals, as well as carrying out major improvementson the entire highway network and carrying out regular inspections aiming at boosting the level of knowledge in highway assets and assessing the effectiveness of the implemented enhancements.
