Aster Medical Centre organises seminar on cancer awareness

Aster Medical Centre, a division of Aster DM Healthcare, organised an interactive session on cancer awareness to mark the World Cancer Day, celebrated every year on February 4 globally. Over 50 women attended the event held at the Hotel Holiday Villa, Doha.
The chief guest of the event was Jyotsana Dey, President of Indian Women’s Association, Qatar Chapter. Speaking about the campaign, Dey said: “Cancer is one of the major causes of death amongst women now. It is extremely important for me as a woman to know what could cause this life threatening disease and what steps can be taken to prevent or detect it at an early stage. It is a great initiative by Aster DM Healthcare towards ensuring better health of women, and the society at large.”  The two-hour interactive session was headed by eminent obstetricians and gynecologists of Aster Medical Centre in Qatar including Dr Jyoti Khanna (Aster Medical Centre, Al Rayyan); Dr Hema Rajeev and Dr Aruna Devi (Aster Medical Centre, C – Ring Road); and Dr Sabita Prasad (Aster Plus, Al Hilal). The panel of doctors discussed on four most common types of Cancers — Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Ovarian, and Endometrial Cancer, its detection, diagnosis and treatments available.
“Cancer is third highest cause of death now with breast and cervical cancer being the highest cause of death amongst women. So it is important for every woman to know about causes and the treatments that are right now available to control the risk of cancer spreading. Many revolutionary treatments have also been discovered to restrain the advancing cancer in our body. We would like to thank our doctors who are here to enlighten us about these life threatening diseases,” Dr Sameer Moopan, CEO, Aster DM Healthcare – Qatar, said.
