Brigadier Muhammad Saad Al Kharji, Dr Hassan Al Derham and Brigadier Mohamed Al Malki and other officials at the forum on traffic safety held at the Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The number of deaths due to traffic accidents in Qatar has declined through constant efforts of the authorities to implement the national traffic safety strategy objectives within the stipulated period, a senior official has said.
Almost 56 traffic-related plans have been implemented from a total of 89 whereas the remaining plans are expected to be completed within the remaining period till 2017, said Brigadier Muhammad Saad Al Kharji, Director General of Traffic.
Al Kharji was speaking in two-day International Forum on Traffic Safety and Sustainable Transport Systems kicked off yesterday at Ritz-Carlton Doha. The Forum is organised by Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) and Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG).
Al Kharji praised the unlimited support of QU to the Traffic Department to develop activities and studies that enrich the traffic safety in Qatar. He also highlighted the importance of providing the community with solutions for Qatar’s traffic safety challenges. “These events represent a valid contribution to our progress to better stand to these challenges”, he said.
The General Secretary of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Brigadier Mohamed Al Malki, pointed out that 102 traffic related plans have been implemented between 2013 and 2016 and 64 are remaining and expected to complete by June 2017. Al Malki expressed his gratitude to QTTSC for the great efforts made in these workshops and events which add value to our previous training and activities on road safety.”
A number of dignitaries including QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham, Swedish Ambassador to Qatar Ewa Polano and experts in traffic safety and sustainable transport attended the event along with officials from traffic directorate and representatives of government authorities.
Dr Hassan Al Derham said the event comes at a time when Qatar is witnessing huge construction projects. Qatar University is committed through its Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center to organizing events such as this one with the aim to provide efficient tools and solutions that contribute to the country’s ongoing efforts to offer a sustainable and safe transportation system which ensures the safety and welfare of the people of Qatar.”
