The Gulf English Infants School (GES) put on a spectacularly colourful display of national costumes from 21 countries, one chosen by each of the 21 classes in the Infants School, to celebrate International Week.
Carol De Jongh, Deputy Head of Infants at GES, said:  “For International Week, each class in our Infants School selects a country to focus on and looks at the culture, customs and beliefs of that country, the idea being to increase their awareness of other cultures and celebrate diversity, both similarities and differences.  In this way, our learning environment echoes the aim of International Week, allowing all cultures within the GES community to achieve their personal best and become responsible global citizens.”
She added: “For us the process of learning should be enjoyable, active and dynamic and International Week is just that.  We want to encourage international understanding, commitment to the community and cooperation across diverse cultures.  We hope that all students in the Infants School will be enriched by the experience, which links to Qatar National Day in the following week.”
Once they have selected the country they want to research and explore, each class in the Infants School then dresses up in the national costume of the country for Dressing Up Day, at the end of International Week, to stage a vibrant International Day Parade.
