QU College of Medicine holds workshop in health science

Doha: Qatar University College of Medicine (QU-CMED) engaged 47 medical consultants and faculty members from the college and various universities, hospitals and primary care institutions across Qatar in a training workshop on teaching and learning strategies in medical education.
Themed “Certificate of Competence in Medical Education”, the course was an opportunity for participants to be oriented on the most up-to-date teaching and learning techniques in health sciences education such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Team-Based Learning (TBL), student-centered learning, Case-Based Learning (CBL), Task-Based Learning, and Research-Based Learning, among many others.
Attendees included QU VPs, Associate VPs and Professors from Pharmacy, Health Sciences and Medicine, as well as academics and medical doctors from Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Healthcare Corporation, and University of Calgary in Qatar. The two-day workshop featured training sessions and presentations led by Medical Education Expert and QU CMED Associate Dean for Academics Prof Hossam Hamdy, and Professor of Quality Promotion in Medical Education and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences and Vice Chair of Maastricht University Medical Centre Prof Albert Scherpbier. They addressed a wide range of topics related to medical education, and moderated presentations and group work for the participants to directly apply the new techniques.
