Doha, Qatar: Qatar is leveraging its diverse tourism and entertainment offerings to sustain visitor activity during the summer, with a range of events, seasonal promotions and experiences aimed at residents, citizens and international visitors.

Despite the challenges posed by high summer temperatures, Qatar Tourism and the country’s hospitality sector are promoting indoor and family-oriented attractions, seasonal experiences and special hotel packages to maintain tourism momentum during the warmer months.

The initiatives are also aimed at encouraging domestic tourism and supporting activity across hospitality, retail, dining and entertainment.

Speaking to Qatar TV, Ayman Al Qadwa said tourism has become an increasingly important contributor to the national economy. Qatar Tourism reported that the sector contributed around QR55bn to the country’s GDP in 2024, accounting for approximately 8% of total economic output and representing a 14% increase compared with 2023.

He said the summer strategy is supported by a growing calendar of events and promotional programmes designed to encourage people to explore tourism destinations within Qatar.

The initiatives target different segments of the market, including families, residents and visitors from abroad, helping enrich the domestic tourism experience while attracting additional visitors during a traditionally challenging season.

The hotel sector is also playing a key role by introducing seasonal packages and entertainment experiences intended to encourage visitors to spend more time at local properties and explore the wider range of services and attractions available in Qatar.

Another expert said such offers help stimulate tourism activity by attracting families and visitors from inside and outside Qatar while supporting hotel demand during the summer.

The expert added that demand for accommodation can have a wider economic impact, as visitors also spend on hospitality services, restaurants and entertainment, benefiting businesses across several related sectors.

The summer tourism approach reflects Qatar’s efforts to strengthen domestic tourism and ensure that different seasons provide opportunities for continued visitor engagement and commercial activity.

Al Qadwa highlighted the importance of the GCC market during the summer season, noting that visitors from neighbouring Gulf countries represent an important source of tourism demand during the warmer months.

The focus on GCC visitors comes alongside efforts to diversify Qatar’s tourism offerings and develop experiences capable of appealing to both domestic and regional audiences. Family entertainment, hospitality promotions and seasonal programmes are helping create additional reasons for visitors to explore Qatar even during the summer.

The country welcomed nearly five million international visitors in 2024.
