The Ministry of Economy and Commerce carried out intensive inspections last July to monitor the compliance of shops with their obligations under the law. The campaigns resulted in the seizure of 128 violations.
The Ministry said in a press release issued yesterday that within the framework of the Ministry’s will to monitor the markets and commercial activities in the country with the aim of controlling prices and detecting violations in order to protect the rights of consumers, the Ministry has carried out inspections and covered different areas in the country.
The statement said that the violations that were seized varied and concentrated mainly on the non-compliance with the prices of the bulletin of vegetables and fruits, non-issuance of invoices in Arabic, description of the item or advertising or display in a manner that contains false or deceptive information, the failure to present the prices of goods or services, and expired products.
The statement said that the penalties for these violations on the shops range between administrative closure and financial fines ranging between QR5,000 to QR30000, according to the laws and decisions governing the work of consumer protection departments.
The statement added the Ministry received 1,322 complaints and took the necessary measures to work on resolving them.
