Doha: The Qatar Calendar House announced that, according to precise astronomical calculations conducted by its specialists, Wednesday will be the first day of Safar for the year 1448 AH.
Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House Dr. Faisal Al-Ansari explained that the crescent moon of Safar for the year 1448 AH will be born tomorrow, Tuesday, which is the “day of observation,” at 12:44 PM Doha local time (9:44 AM GMT).
He confirmed that the crescent moon of Safar for the year 1448 AH will set 17 minutes after sunset on the day of observation (Tuesday) in the skies of Qatar, and this period will increase as one moves westward.
It is worth noting that, according to astronomical constants, the movement of the moon in its orbit around the earth determines the beginnings and ends of the Islamic months, while the movement of the earth in its orbit around the sun determines the beginnings and ends of the Gregorian months.
