Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Sports and Youth’s Summer Activity Plan 2026 marks a significant shift from traditional activities to specialised, high-quality programmes designed to meet the evolving interests and aspirations of young people, a senior ministry official has said.

Speaking to Qatar Television recently, Fatima Al Marwani, Head of the Youth Centres and Organisations Programmes Section at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, said this year’s summer plan focuses on delivering diverse, high-quality initiatives across multiple fields to enhance youth engagement and participation.

Al Marwani revealed that the 2026 programme includes more than 550 activities implemented by 34 participating organisations, making it one of the ministry’s most comprehensive summer initiatives.

“The Summer Activity Plan for 2026 represents a transition from offering traditional programmes to providing specialised programmes in various fields,” she said. “This year, more than 550 programmes are being launched through 34 implementing entities.”

She noted that one of the defining features of this year’s initiative is the ministry’s intensified programme of field visits to youth centres, aimed at ensuring the quality and effectiveness of activities delivered to participants.

“We have been keen to increase field visits to the centres to ensure the quality of the programmes provided to the target group,” Al Marwani said.

She explained that the summer activity plan has been carefully designed to provide a comprehensive youth development experience, encompassing leadership development, sports, cultural activities and a wide range of initiatives that contribute to building the capabilities of young people.

According to Al Marwani, the programmes were not selected randomly but were developed in line with the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s strategic objectives and the Qatar National Youth Policy, both of which support the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

She stressed that the ministry adopts a strategic approach in designing its summer programmes to ensure they contribute to the long-term development of Qatar’s youth while addressing their diverse interests.

Discussing how the programmes were selected, Al Marwani said the ministry relies on continuous assessments of young people’s changing needs and aspirations.

“The programmes are selected based on studies of the evolving needs and requirements of young people,” she said. “We do not rely solely on written reports. As I mentioned earlier, we conduct intensive field visits, which give us a better opportunity to accurately assess the quality of the programmes being delivered to youth.”

She added that direct engagement with youth centres allows the ministry to gather practical feedback and continuously improve programme quality, ensuring that summer activities remain relevant, impactful and aligned with the expectations of Qatar’s younger generation.
