Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced the launch of the third set of technical training workshops within the framework of its summer programme.
This includes a workshop to develop reading skill, from July 18 to 21 at Hall No. 1, Building 18. Ages of 8 to 13 years old are invited to participate in this workshop which discusses definition of reading and its importance, teaching how to read enjoyable, developing the skill and methods of reading, motivating and encouraging children to read.
“The Art of Engraving on Gypsum” will be held from July 24 to 27 wherein participants will learn about the history of the art of engraving on gypsum, which dates back to the eleventh century AD and was a major part of Arab architecture and engineering and still is. This legacy is renewed, as gypsum has become an essential part in decorating homes, and a hobby and artistic craft for many young people today to occupy their spare time by making models and engraving on them. Also, creating Islamic motifs or writing calligraphy, verses and others.
“Hand embroidery” workshop is set on August 7 to 10 and only women may be able to register in this programme. The workshop includes a definition of the Naqdah craft, which is one of the ancient traditional crafts, practised by women and requires accuracy and skill in implementation. Certain multi-coloured wicker threads and their own needle will also be used.
During the workshop, participants are trained on the types of inscriptions and decorations, and how to deal with wicker, which is characterised by two colours - gold and silver.
All workshops will be held at Hall no. 1, Building 18. And to register, email kids.workshop@kataraforum.com. Katara will award certificates to the participants at the conclusion of each workshop.
The cultural village has launched a number of technical training workshops since June, dealing with various artistic fields, such as “Making fish with watercolours”, “Working summer flowers,” teaching the basics of landscape painting, training on designing a stamp and postcard, teaching the art of puppet making, Arabic calligraphy, in addition to art workshops launched by the Al Thuraya Planetarium.
