Kawit, Cavite – Lasers, videos, and sound that have turned the Aguinaldo Shrine into a large history screen for an hour every evening since the eve of Independence Day will have its final presentation tomorrow, June 15. The “video mapping show” would have touched the hearts of thousands of Filipinos who have made time to view the extraordinary lesson on Philippine history.
The light and sound show is one of the highlights of the 117th Independence Day and Flag Day celebrations of Cavite which started May 28 and ends on June 12. Cavite has the longest Independence Day and National Flag Day celebration. The Philippine flag was first waved by the revolutionaries at the “Battle of Alapan” in Imus on May 28, 1898, and later at the Shrine in Kawit where the proclamation of independence was made by General Emilio F. Aguinaldo on June 12 of the same year.
The 30-minute laser history presentation has three shows a night – at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. it is open to the public.
The hi-tech light-video mapping show, a first in the country, shows Philippine history –from the discovery of the country by Magellan on March 15, 1521 to the revolution and day of independence from Spanish colonization at the turn of the 20th century. Two gadgets from the nearby Freedom Park project the images to shrine’s façade.
The video-mapping presentation was organized by the Department of Tourism, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and National Historical Commission and local officials.
Expected to grace the final presentation tomorrow are Senate President Franklin M. Drilon, Senator Loren Legarda, Mark Tadeo Lapid, TIEZA chief operating officer and former Pampanga governor; and other government luminaries, according to the curator of the Aguinaldo Shrine.
Members of the diplomatic corps and academic community, tourism officials, historians, writers, heritage experts and other personalities were invited to watch the show.
Those who have watched the show have praised it for its “awesome use of lights and sound and video to remind people of our history.”
The historical laser show is run by Optimum Show Company, a French group, led by Richard Tomas.
