DOHA: The government has allotted five plots in different parts of the city to build new state-of-the-art hospitals in partnership with the private sector.
This is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) to provide investment opportunities to private sector to “build and operate” hospitals according to the highest international standards in healthcare, said a statement yesterday.
The hospitals will be built in four areas — North of Qatar University, Ain Khaled, Abu Hamour and Al Furoush (in the north) — on plots of 10000sqm to 14,000 sqm. The hospitals will be dedicated for women and child care, mental health and other relevant specialties.
In this context, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has launched a survey to collect feedback from the private sector on the project. The online survey is being conducted through a questionnaire that is available on the ministry website.
The survey seeks opinion from the companies on the facilities and health specialties to be provided at the hospitals, approximate time for designing and building the hospitals, economic feasibility of the project, way of financing and mechanism for marketing, estimated cost, targeted population, how the government can support the hospitals to provide the best quality of care, what kind of conditions to be offered to investors and how the project can promote competition in healthcare sector.
Investors who are interested to take part in the survey may register their names by July 1. Answers to the questions may be sent to the email ppp@mec.gov.qa
A tender will be issued after the opinion poll is completed, which will be open to all investors. Those who have not participated in the survey can also take part in the bid, said the statement.
Further information on the project and the opinion poll can be had from the economic studies and research department at the ministry over telephone 40122619.
