Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph G. Recto yesterday pressed the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to address the perennial traffic problem and to make mass transportation systems like the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) trouble free instead of focusing on their controversial P3.8-billion program to replace all motor vehicle license plates.
“They should fix the traffic problem and the problems bugging the MRT and LRT and should not insist on changing vehicle plates which could still be used,” Recto said.
Recto was referring to the unreliable and “unsafe” operations of the MRT which cut to more than one half the number of coaches plying the Epifanio de los Santos (EDSA) route because of technical problems.
