DOHA: As rescue and relief work in earthquake-hit Nepal has come to an end and rebuilding effort has begun, Qatar has embarked on a second phase of donation drive to aid the initiative and charities here have so far collected QR35m ($9.61bn) for the cause.
Qatar’s central authority for regulating charitable organisations, the Charities Regulatory Authority, has announced that local charities have mobilised QR35m for rebuilding effort in the quake-ravaged areas of the Himalayan nation. The donation campaign was launched on May 5, in collaboration with many charity and humanitarian organisations, including Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, Sheikh Eid Charity Foundation, and Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF).
Some development projects will also be launched by Qatari charity organisations in collaboration with their partners in Nepal to help the people affected by the disaster. So far, Qatari charity and humanitarian entities have provided relief packages worth QR9m ($2.5bn) in Nepal, benefiting more than 300,000 people from over 52,000 families.
