Aspetar team highlights Qatar’s health campaign

Doha: A delegation of researchers from Aspetar’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme showcased their research on behavioural nutrition and physical activity at the 14th Meeting of International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity taking place in Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Scotland.
The delegation discussed their findings in seven scientific papers related to physical activity and topics on a community’s well-being. 
They also highlighted their experiences in Qatar in promoting physical activity and its benefits, citing  the ‘Step Into Health’ programme.
Mohamed Ghaith Al Kuwari, Director-General, Aspetar, presented a research entitled ‘The effects of a 12-month pedometer-determined physical activity intervention on adults in Qatar’.
Abdulla Albuflasa, Senior Health Promotion Researcher, discussed perceived barriers, motivators, and benefits of physical activity in Qatar. 
In his paper, Abdulla Al Mohannadi, Senior Health Promotion Researcher, focused on a research entitled ‘Pocket Pedometer vs. Smartphone-based Pedometer to Promote Physical Activity in the Community: Experience from Qatar’.
Dr Izzeldin Ibrahim, Head,  Healthy Lifestyle Programme, showcased Qatar Active Schools projects while Aspetar researcher Lena Zimmo highlighted a case study of primary schools students on physical activity measurement equipment.
Abdulaziz Farooq, Aspetar Researcher, spoke about ‘Low physical activity rate for boys after the teenage’.
Aspetar’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme aims to support Qatar National Vision 2030 that encourages society to become more active and healthier. 
It includes initiatives such as ‘Step Into Health’; ‘Exercise Is Medicine’; ‘Haraka wa Seha’; and ‘Qatar Active schools’ project.
