DOHA: The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority will open a ‘pop-up’ interactive gallery, ‘Transformations’, today at W Hotel lobby as part of the Art for Tomorrow conference.
The gallery seeks to highlight transformation Qatar is undergoing, and the role everyone in Qatar has in this story, while evoking QFC’s role as a facilitator of success for businesses in Qatar.
“We are frequently called on to talk about Qatar’s economic story, but we don’t often hear about the people contributing to this narrative. However, the economic growth is also fuelling a creative economy and many young artists working here, from Qatar and elsewhere, are telling through their art personal stories behind the country’s success,” said Yousuf Fakhroo, Director, Marketing and Corporate Communications, QFC.
The gallery is open to the public until Monday. It will feature photographs by local artist Omar Khalifa, who uses a ‘double-exposure’ technique that merges two images into one. A short film created for the event will expand on the stories in the imagery. Visitors will be invited to have their photographs taken and transformed into their unique double exposure image which will be emailed to them later.
The forum, sponsored by QFC, will discuss the changing dynamics of the arts and architecture industry, and their potential to change people and places.
