DOHA: Eighteen high school students took a step towards their dreams of pursuing a career in medicine as they completed Qatar Aspiring Doctors Programme at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q).
The Student Recruitment and Outreach Unit at WCMC-Q’s Pre-Medical Education Division designed the programme to help talented students reach the academic level required to apply to study medicine full-time after they graduate from high school.
Participation in the programme is based on merit, and to be selected, students must have demonstrated academic aptitude, a desire to forge a career in medicine and dedication to studies.
Dr Rachid Bendriss, Assistant Dean, Student Recruitment, Outreach and Foundation Programmes, WCMC-Q, said, “The students have shown enormous motivation to learn and worked hard to master the material presented to them. We have been impressed by their intelligence, intellectual curiosity and work ethic.
“The programme is a testament to WCMC-Q’s outreach to the school community in Qatar and our support for their students to develop academic skills and expose them to WCMC-Q’s programmes.”
The programme, which runs from September to March each academic year, is tailored to suit each student’s academic level and career goals.
The course comprises face-to-face instruction, online modules and hands-on training covering subjects such as maths, biology, physical sciences and research skills, based on a customised timetable to fit with each student’s school schedule.
Students who completed the programme were drawn from Al Bayan Secondary High School, Al Wakra Independent School for Girls, Debakey High School, Omar Bin Khattab School, Al Jazeera Academy and Al Ieman School.
