Doha: The Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles yesterday launched a campaign to remove abandoned vehicles in Al Daayen Municipality.
About 100 abandoned vehicles have been marked to remove during the campaign which will run for two weeks.
Head of the General Control Department in Doha Municipality and a member of the committee Hamad Sultan Al Shahwani said that warning stickers have been issued to abandoned vehicles giving three-day grace period to the owners to remove their vehicles.
He pointed out that about 100 abandoned vehicles were marked in Al Daayen Municipality, which are being removed in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Al Shahwani said that the campaign will continue for two consecutive weeks, during which all abandoned vehicles will be marked and removed as soon as possible.
He added that the action plan of this year aims to intensify work in all municipalities, at a rate of 3 campaigns for each municipality during the current year.
Al Shahwani pointed out that leaving the abandoned car in public areas hinders the development process, plans and strategic projects.
He also called on motorists to cooperate with the authorities concerned to accomplish this work in order to preserve the aesthetic appearance of the country.
Al Shahwani urged people to cooperate with the committee in order to avoid legal accountability in implementation of Law No. (18) of 2017 on public cleanliness.
He stressed the need for the public to cooperate with the efforts of removing abandoned cars, to eliminate the phenomenon of the spread of abandoned cars in all regions of the country.
To recall, the Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles started implementing its action plan during the current year according to a well-studied plan after it was approved by Minister of Municipality. The Committee was restructured under Ministerial Resolution No. (91) for the year 2021 headed by Major General Ali Salman Al Mohannadi, Chairman of the Committee.
The Chairman of the Committee directed the members to start campaigns to remove abandoned cars and equipment, and work to raise all abandoned cars across the country.
This comes within the framework of the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Municipality to reduce this phenomenon that distorts the aesthetic view of the country, in implementation of Law No. (18) of 2017 regarding public hygiene, in addition to the health and environmental damage it causes.
