PM plays football; Lekhwiya opens multipurpose hall

Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani took part yesterday in the National Sport Day celebrations organised by the Ministry of Interior's (MoI) Qatar Police Sports Federation.
The event, which is annually held at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium, was attended by department managers, and more than 2,000 employees of the Ministry.
The event was also attended by a large number of persons with special needs from the Gulf Disability Society, Aamal Center for Special Needs, Al Tamakon School, Rumailah Hospital, and Doha International Center for Special Needs.
The programme included a football match in which the Prime Minister, the Director General of Public Security and a number of department managers participated. In addition, the employees of the Ministry participated in different sports such as track and field, tug of war, basketball, tennis and so on.
The Prime Minister and commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) also attended celebrations organised by Lekhwiya at its headquarters.
On the sidelines of the celebrations, Lekhwiya inaugurated a 2,500 square metre multipurpose sports hall as an addition to qualify Lekhwiya's employees. On the first National Sport Day in 2012, Lekhwiya inaugurated the biggest sports hall, a sports arena in the 2013 celebrations and a fitness hall in the 2014 celebrations.
Many other employees from General Directorate of Civil Defense, Police Training Institute and General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security also participated in games.
“Qatar has marked a special day for sports to promote healthy lifestyle habits. Medical specialists and doctors say that sports combat many diseases and all people must join sports especially here because Qatar is offering all sports equipment which enable residents to practice in public places, clubs and public parks”, said Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Khargi, Director of Traffic Department.
Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi yesterday participated along with Ministry officials in the activities of National Sport Day.  The activities included walkathon from the Museum of Islamic Art Park to Sheraton Park, in addition to many others activities hold at Katara and in every municipality. “More sports equipment will be added in public parks to encourage people to take part in sporting activities," Al Rumaihi said in a press statement.
“Qatar is giving attention to sport and it has built a number of sports facilities which have made the country a sport capital in the Middle East," he added.
