Doha, Qatar: The next edition of the Spanish Super Cup could be held in Qatar, confirmed the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzan, adding that negotiations are underway with the country as an alternative host for the tournament next year.
In an interview to Spanish outlet COPE, Louzan confirmed that the Super Cup will leave Saudi Arabia as it will host the Asian Cup the same period, from January 7 to February 6, 2027, necessitating a new venue.
Louzan said that negotiations are focused on Qatar, adding, "We have a good contract, a very good contract; it's true that everything can be improved."
COPE also further quoted Louzan as stating that they are considering moving the tournament dates to the first week of February to avoid the "high-traffic dates" in January.
In another update, the Spanish national team will take on Egypt on March 30 in an international friendly to be played in at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium at 6pm (Spanish time). It will take place three days after Spain face Argentina in the Finalissima, which will also be held in Qatar, at the Lusail Stadium.
Meanwhile Doha will host the Finalissima between Spain and Argentina at Lusail Stadium, on March 27 followed by another international fixture three days later that will see the Spanish national team take on Egypt in a friendly match on March 30 at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
