Doha: The government of the State of Qatar has fundamentally rejected Amnesty International's claims in their report 'New Name, Old System?' that Law No. 21 of 2015 on the entry, exit, and residence of expatriates, fails to provide sufficient legislative protection for migrant workers in Qatar.
"We remain committed to the development of a labor system that is fair to both employers and employees alike," the Government Communications Office said Monday in a statement.
"These new legislative changes, combined with ongoing enforcement and a commitment to systemic reform, not just in Qatar but also in countries of origin, will ensure workers' rights are respected across the entire labor pathway."
"We will continue to review and adapt our laws to ensure our approach to reform is fit for purpose," the statement added.
