DOHA: The youth and sports sector in Qatar has witnessed several remarkable achievements thanks to the unlimited support provided by the state to this important and vital sector.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has achieved a number of significant successes at several levels in the past one year.
In a significant move, the ministry completed the preparation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Strategy (2015-2017).
The operational plan includes 22 initiatives and a set of programmes designed to achieve the strategic objectives, in addition to the matrices of indicators to measure performance and progress.
The ministry also completed the development of the overall quality plan, and the preparation of the functional structure and the draft financial and administrative regulations applied in the youth centres.
In the youth sector, the ministry implemented many projects aimed at youth development.
It organised a number of activities and programmes and took part in several events abroad.
The ministry inaugurated Mowater Centre for the talented young people in the automotive field, and Nomas Centre, a government educational centre that aims at preserving the Qatari identity and promoting community service.
The ministry also took part in the cultural exchange programme between Qatar and Japan, supported the football championship for overseas students in Britain, and participated in the 8th Annual UK Career Fair.
It also sponsored the Cultural Village event organised by Qatar University, and established a number of new youth centres for both genders and the Union of Youth Activities.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Youth and Sports started a study on the optimum exploitation of sports facilities in the framework of partnership between the public and private sectors, and another study on investment opportunities in the sports sector, in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
In the sports sector, the ministry studied several tournaments made by sports federations and prepared the necessary reports and recommendations thereon, such as the 2015 World Wrestling Championships, IHF Super Globe 2015, GCC beach games, FIVB Volleyball World Cup, Military World Games 2019, and the IPC Athletics World Championships.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports established Qatar Sports For All Federation aiming at spreading awareness of sport, expanding scope of exercising and increasing number of participants in physical activities.
The support provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports had also contributed to achieve many international accomplishments.
Aspetar, the world’s leading Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, got the International Handball Federation (IHF) recognition to become the first IHF Reference Centre for Athlete and Referee Health worldwide, following the outstanding medical services provided by the hospital during the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship.
Aspetar also won the Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahad award for the best sports researches in Asia, and is recognised as the IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health.
