Doha, Qatar: Qatar students have won three medals in the second edition of the Poetry, Short Story and Novel Competition, held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, from October 6 to 8, highlighting the literary talents of the country’s young writers and their creative abilities in the Arabic language.

The students secured two silver medals and one bronze medal in the competition, organised by the Educational Centre for the Arabic Language for Gulf States, affiliated with the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, under the theme “In Arabic, We Create.”

Osama Khamis Al Marri, a Grade 10 student at the Religious Preparatory and Secondary Institute for Boys, won a silver medal in poetry. Jawhara Majed Al Malki, a Grade 9 student at Mouza bint Mohammed Preparatory School for Girls, secured the second silver medal in the short story category.

Tamim Hussein Ayed Al Qahtani, a Grade 10 student at Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab Secondary School for Boys, won the bronze medal in the novel category.

The closing ceremony, held on October 8, featured the recognition of heads of participating delegations and members of the scientific committees, alongside the announcement and awarding of the winning students.

Noor Al Hammadi, Arabic language supervisor and head of the Qatari delegation, was also honoured in recognition of her efforts in supervising the students’ training, nurturing their literary talents and encouraging them to participate and excel in the regional cultural event.

The achievement highlights the emerging literary talent in Qatar’s schools and the role of educational institutions, teachers, supervisors and parents in identifying and developing students’ abilities. It also reflects efforts to strengthen students’ skills in Arabic expression and creative writing while deepening their connection to their cultural identity.

The success further underscores the participation of Qatari students in regional literary events and aligns with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s commitment to nurturing creativity, investing in students’ capabilities and developing a generation that takes pride in its language and national identity.

These efforts support the human development objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly through education that equips young people with the skills and confidence to contribute to society.

The three medals mark an important milestone for the students, providing them with valuable literary experience and encouraging them to further develop their writing skills and pursue new opportunities for creativity and excellence in Arabic literature.
