Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Labour, represented by the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Human Rights Department, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has successfully concluded a high-level regional training programme entitled, “Strengthening National Capacities to Combat Human Trafficking in the GCC States.”

Held from October 12 to 16 2025, the programme convened officials from Qatar’s national authorities alongside specialised delegations from other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.

The initiative aimed to enhance institutional and professional capacities to combat human trafficking, delivering advanced training anchored in international best practices and evidence-based methodologies. The sessions addressed effective mechanisms for prevention, protection, and prosecution, as well as strategies for victim support and rehabilitation, thereby strengthening regional collaboration to address this grave violation of human rights.

This initiative forms part of the Ministry of Labour’s ongoing capacity-building efforts under Qatar’s National Plan to Combat Human Trafficking (2024–2026). The plan seeks to reinforce coordination among national institutions and civil society organisations, while cultivating partnerships with regional and international entities.

It reflects Qatar’s enduring commitment to upholding human dignity in accordance with Islamic law, the Constitution, and national legislation prohibiting all forms of exploitation and abuse. Experts from the ILO and IOM delivered in-depth sessions on modern investigative techniques, legislative frameworks, victim identification and protection, and preventive approaches to combat trafficking.

The programme further highlighted the importance of regional knowledge exchange and the sharing of best practices among GCC states to enhance collective responses to transnational trafficking networks.

The organisation of this training reaffirms Qatar’s steadfast dedication to international solidarity and regional partnership in combating human trafficking.

It embodies the State’s integrated approach to prevention, ensures effective protection and rehabilitation for victims, and enforces robust accountability measures against perpetrators.

Human trafficking remains one of the gravest violations of human dignity and fundamental freedoms.

Its eradication requires sustained, coordinated, and cross-sectoral action at national, regional, and global levels, to enhance awareness, bolster institutional resilience, and safeguard the inherent dignity and rights of every individual.
