DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded its celebrations of the International Day of Older Persons 2016, observed globally on October 1.
A two-week social campaign under the theme of “We Stand by You”, was launched to recognise the contributions of the older generations who played a big role in building and strengthening Qatari families and society, while cherishing the Qatari traditions and values.
Over two weeks, several charitable activities were held, including visits to social gatherings of older persons in order to keep in touch with them and give them a happy time.
These visits were made by a group of QRCS volunteers, together with media and social media celebrities like Asmaa Al-Hamadi, Nasser Al Khulaifi, Khalifah Al-Rumaihi, and Radio Wadha.
The purpose of these visits is to bring smiles on the faces of older people, show gratitude for their hard work and services for their families and society at large, make use of their experiences, take snapshots of life at their time, draw lessons learnt, and know about the forms of social and familial relations in the past decades.
The closing ceremony of the campaign was held at Sharq Village & Spa and involved shows by students of Abdul-Rahman bin Jassim Preparatory School and girls of Qatar Centre for Voluntary Activities.
A group of older social figures were honored, including Sabah bin Said Al-Kuwari, Abdullah Al-Abdullah, and representatives of the volunteer groups and sponsors who supported the campaign, particularly volunteer groups from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain.
