Beijing: H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Cultural Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate to the post of Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), met in Beijing yesterday with China’s Education Vice-Minister Hao Ping.
During the meeting, Dr Al Kawari presented his vision for the advancement of Unesco and the challenges facing it and outlined his plan to deal with them, underscoring the attention of Qatar and China to the goals of the organisation and their endeavours to support it in different sectors.
After discussions, the Chinese side appreciated Qatar’s candidate, praised his vast experience that would enable him to play a big role at Unesco, and expressed China’s appreciation for the role of Qatar and the Gulf states in support to Unesco in the sectors of education, culture and heritage. The meeting was attended by senior education officials in China, Qatar’s Ambassador to China Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri, and Secretary-General of the Chinese National Commission for Unesco Du Yue.
