DOHA: Over 250 chefs will compete in 15 categories of Salon Culinaire at the Hospitality Qatar 2015 which opens today at the Doha Exhibition Centre (DEC).
Salon Culinaire is one of the major highlights at the three-day event expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors.
A total of 111 exhibitors dealing in all aspects of the Hotels, Restaurants and Cafés (HORECA) food, supply, design and investment industry representing 12 countries are participating in the exhibition spread over 5,000 square metre.
The Salon Culinaire, which is co-organised by the Qatar Culinary Professionals (QCP) association, will be supervised by the World Association of Chefs Societies for Africa & the Middle East (WACS) and judged by 10 regional and international experts.
Some of the best chefs of hotels and restaurants here will be creating signature dishes, hors d’oeuvres, Arabic mezza, desserts and cakes, among others. They will compete in exciting live cooking as well as ice, vegetable and fruit carving which have always attracted big crowds every year.
There will also be a Mocktail Competition in which bartenders will showcase their knowledge and ability to create the tastiest mocktail in Doha.
Free professional training courses for food and beverage professionals, hygiene officers and prominent Qatari stakeholders in the hospitality sector will be available. Organised by Boecker, these courses will provide valuable information on different food safety techniques and measures through an introductory course in basic food hygiene and an induction course on HACCP.
