Sydney, Australia: A woman was in a critical condition after being bitten by a shark at a beach in Sydney's east on Saturday, police in the Australian state of New South Wales said.
Emergency services were called to Coogee Beach in Sydney's east just before 1115 a.m. following reports that a swimmer had been bitten by a shark, NSW police said in a statement.
The woman was pulled from the water by members of the public who commenced first aid before the arrival of emergency services.
Police rendered first aid to the woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, who had suffered serious arm and leg injuries, before NSW Ambulance paramedics attended.
She was treated for serious injuries, with preparations underway for her to be flown to the hospital.
