Cairo: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), participated in the 4th Forum for Electoral Management Bodies in the Arab States, which kicked off yesterday at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
The forum will last for three days under the theme 'Media and elections'.
Director of Legal Affairs at MoI Lt. Col. Ahmed Abdullah Al Harami chaired the State of Qatar’s delegation at the event.
The forum aims to discuss the various aspects of the role of the media during the various stages of the electoral process, in cooperation with the United Nations Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD) and the United Nations Development Program 'Regional Electoral Support for Middle East and North Africa project'.
In this regard, the meeting deals with ways to enhance cooperation in the field of elections through the exchange of experiences among electoral administrations in the Arab region, in addition to strengthening the capabilities of electoral administrations to deal with the media scene in its various dimensions during the electoral processes.
The sessions of the forum include presentations by member states and international organisations on the role of traditional and digital media in elections, with the participation of many heads and members of Arab electoral administrations and bodies, in addition to representatives of international organisations.
The first Forum for Electoral Management Bodies in the Arab States was held in Cairo, Egypt in May 2016 in conjunction with the United Nations.
This first of its kind event, brought together officials and representatives of electoral management bodies (EMBs) in the Arab states, in addition to participants from leading regional and international organisations in the field of elections, all of whom contributed to the success of the Forum.
