Vienna: Qatar has confirmed its support to efforts of Group 3+3 and Iran to reach a peaceful solution to Teheran’s nuclear issue.
The state also called on Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to intensify efforts to resolve outstanding issues, show maximum flexibility and political will to overcome obstacles and reach a final and comprehensive solution to the nuclear issue.
This came in a statement by Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Qatar’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to international organisations in Vienna, during a meeting of the Board of Governors of IAEA on ‘Implementation of the Safeguards Agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
Al Mansouri praised efforts in carrying out IAEA mandate in Iran and said, “They are great and diversified. Overlapping of some are related to implementation of its mission in declared facilities under the safeguards agreement with Iran, others related to implementation of a cooperation framework to clarify outstanding issues and, its tasks for implementation the joint action plan signed between Iran and Group 3+3.
He also praised efforts of Group 3+3 and Iran towards a joint plan of action and thanked the IAEA director-general for his report on implementation of the safeguards agreement under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), UN Security Council resolutions with regard to Iran published in GOV/2015/34, and the IAEA deputy director-general for safeguards for holding a briefing session on June 3 and the explanation provided in the report.
Al Mansouri said, “Qatar has supported efforts of Group 3+3 and Iran and the cooperation framework programme between IAEA and Tehran to reach a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
“Qatar calls on Iran and IAEA to intensify efforts to resolve outstanding issues, and is looking forward to seeing fruits of effort to Group 3+3 and Iran in reaching a comprehensive plan of action by this month-end.
“Qatar also calls on all parties to show maximum flexibility and political will to overcome remaining obstacles and reach a final and comprehensive solution to the nuclear issue.”
Al Mansouri said IAEA managed in the past two decades to develop scientific, technical and field capabilities to implement its mission under the NPT in cases of non-compliance indicators.
“It is the only agency capable of providing credible assurances regarding the absence of nuclear materials and undeclared nuclear activities.’’
Al Mansouri also called on all countries to provide all possible support to IAEA to help it carry out its mandate in the field. Group 3+3 comprises Germany, France, the UK, China, the US and Russia. QNA
