Hounded by citizenship and residency issues, Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares yesterday admitted she is hurt over being labeled “ambitious” by those critical of her political plans.

Poe was reacting to a statement by former congressman from Negros Oriental, Jacinto V. Paras, who supported the presidential bid of her late father, Fernando Poe Jr., in 2004.

"That’s his opinion. Of course, I am hurt by his saying that I am overreaching,” Poe said in an interview in San Juan City.

"It’s like having no right to serve the public. If these issues are filed before the court, then I will have a chance to defend myself,” the senator said.

Poe reiterated she is not hiding anything about her personal status or identity and abides by the law. “I am praying for justice,” she said.

She reiterated that she will fight for the rights of foundlings and the adopted. Poe, herself, was adopted by FPJ and his wife, actress Susan Roces.

"There are lots of abandoned children in our country. I’m just thankful that I was given love and raised up right,” Poe said.
