DOHA: Undersecretaries of Tourism Ministries and Authorities in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) are meeting in Doha today.
The representatives will gather in preparation for a meeting between Tourism Ministers and Tourism Authority Chairpersons expected to take place in October. The meeting will be opened by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi and will be chaired by Saif Al Kuwari, Director of International Co-operation at QTA.
“The high level of representation at today’s meeting is a clear indication of GCC member states’ desire to move forward and activate partnerships for the benefit of the tourism sector in our countries, and in the Gulf as a whole,” said Al Kuwari.
“Qatar believes that collaboration with our neighbors now is essential, in order to capitalise on the upcoming mega events that the region will host, such as Expo Dubai 2020 and the FIFA World Cup 2022.”
Delegates will explore ways to increase intra-GCC tourism and activate partnerships with the private sector, as well as ways to remove obstacles that hinder the development of the tourism sector by working more closely with other ministries such as those of Culture and Economy. The Peninsula
