A Kahramaa employee is screened for glaucoma at the company’s headquarters.

DOHA: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health, organised a free camp yesterday for its 40-year plus employees and conducted tests for eye pressure and errors of refraction at its headquarters.
The camp was part of Kahramaa’s corporate objective to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
The event organised by the Health, Safety and Environment Department (HSE) led Kahramaa joining the world community to mark World Glaucoma Week from March 6 to 12.
Several employees and senior functionaries were screened and provided with information and awareness about glaucoma and related diseases.
The World Glaucoma Week is a joint initiative of the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association to eliminate blindness resulting from glaucoma. The week is observed every year to spread awareness.
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases which cause progressive optic nerve damage resulting in a gradual loss of vision.
The theme of this year’s activities was ‘Beat Invisible Glaucoma’ (B.I.G).
Glaucoma develops when the intraocular fluid naturally produced by the eye is not drained properly.
This can be caused by a blockage in the drainage canals of eyes. When this occurs, the pressure in the eye builds up above normal levels, which damages optical nerves. If left untreated, this damage can lead to blindness.
Kahramaa has been organising regular health camps for its employees to ensure their wellbeing, spread awareness about healthy lifestyles and ensure a healthy working environment. The Peninsula
