DOHA: Qatar National Library (QNL) is organising October’s book discussion on the book Jassim — The Leader: Founder of Qatar (pictured) by celebrated author and former minister of economy and commerce Sheikh Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani.
The discussion will be held in English at Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Centre on Wednesday from 6.30pm to 8pm.
The book covers the extraordinary life of ‘the Leader’ and the founder of modern-day Qatar, providing a fascinating insight into the life of Sheikh Jassim bin Muhammad bin Thani.
It details how the ruler was able to unify tribes, control regional conflicts and establish Qatar as a consolidated state. The book offers interesting and thorough insights into Qatar’s history since it was founded to the present day. Published in 2013, the biography highlights Qatar in the 1830s and offers readers a unique insight into the recently established capital, Doha. The monthly discussion seeks to encourage youth, students and the community to embrace reading.
