Qatar, Sweden sign agreement to establish joint business council

DOHA: Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, H E Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Sayed held official talks with Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of the Kingdom of Sweden, H E Benjamin Dousa and the accompanying delegation visiting Qatar.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen trade and investment relations, explored opportunities in priority sectors, and reviewed global economic developments. Both sides emphasised the importance of fostering public–private partnerships and highlighted prospects for cooperation in technology, industry, and sustainability, in line with Qatar’s national priorities.

During the day, Dr. Al-Sayed inaugurated the Qatari–Swedish Business Meeting at Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, joined by H E Benjamin Dousa; Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber (QC); the ambassadors of both countries; and leading business leaders from the two sides.

During the meeting, the Minister of State witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the Qatari–Swedish Joint Business Council, a permanent platform for coordination of trade and investment initiatives. In his delivered remarks, Dr. Al-Sayed stressed that the Council marks a strategic leap toward sustainable economic partnership and reflects a mutual commitment to advance cooperation. The Swedish delegation members stressed that innovation, technology and sustainability are priority areas for future cooperation with the State of Qatar.

Both sides affirmed commitment to elevate economic ties and unlock broader avenues for trade and investment.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, Chairman of QC emphasised that the signing of the Qatari–Swedish Joint Business Council marks a pivotal step in enhancing cooperation, affirming that the Council will serve as a platform to bring together business leaders and companies from both nations, facilitate joint investments, and boost bilateral trade exchanges.

The QC Chairman further stated that Qatar is steadily advancing toward building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy, offering significant opportunities for Swedish companies to establish investments and forge strategic partnerships in the country.

He called on Swedish companies to invest in Qatar and collaborate with Qatari businesses, stressing that Qatar today stands as a leading hub for business and investment, supported by world-class infrastructure, an attractive investment climate, and progressive legislation that permits 100% foreign ownership in most economic sectors.

For his part, H E Benjamin Dousa, Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden, praised the significant progress being made in Qatar, noting that holding the business forum between business leaders from both countries reflects the shared commitment to expanding cooperative relations and exploring broader horizons.
