Doha: The Department of Islamic Research and Studies of the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs held a symposium on ‘Zakat and Development’ in celebration of the 14th Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani International Endowment Prize with the presence of HE Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem.
Head of the Department of Fiqh and Usul Al Fiqh at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, Dr. Salih Qadir Al Zanki, who presented a paper titled “Operationalizing Legitimate Issues in Contemporary Reality,” participated in the symposium.
Also, Yemeni researcher Fayez Yahya Shubail, who won the prize, participated in the symposium.
He presented a paper on “Zakat and Development”, describing the impact of Zakat on development and the economy. The legitimate purposes of Zakat are the reconstruction of the Earth, the preparation and rehabilitation of man, the enrichment of the poor, the education of the ignorant, the treatment of the helpless, and the protection of countries and those indebted, as it seeks development in all areas of humanity, social, health, education, economic, military, environmental and others.
